Stem Cell Research helps to find a Cure for Diseases

Stem cells are unique as they combine two key properties: self-renewal and Pluripotency. They have the capability to share and self-renew and Pluripotency means that they can distinguish and give rise to numerous different cell types. Stem cells can be of two types such as embryonic stem cells and adult stem cells. Additionally, iPS or induced pluripotent stem cells are very alike to embryonic stem cells, and are the focus of stem cell ongoing research and development.

Alexander Potoczak is from Ohio who has become active in stem cell research. He believes that the research that is being done is vital to find a cure for conditions and diseases such as birth defects and diabetes type 1. The Stem cells are mostly called the "master cells" of the human body as they are able to create all other organs, tissues, and systems in the body. The stem cells are the building blocks of your immune system and blood. They are the industrial unit of the blood system and repeatedly make new duplicates of themselves and produce cells such as White Blood Cells, Red blood Cells and Platelets.
Several researches done in this field recommend that stem cells gained from cord blood are comparatively more beneficial over those regained from peripheral blood or bone marrow 

This is because the stem cells gained from cord blood are younger and appear to be more adaptable.

They also exhibit an essential characteristic with embryonic stem cells and are able to distinguish into almost all cell types in the body.

In addition stem cells from cord blood can be obtained easily as they are acquired right at the time of delivery from the placenta.

Collecting stem cells from bone marrow necessitates a surgical method, and is usually carried out under general anesthesia which can cause post-operative discomfort or can cause a risk to the giver.
Stem cell researches holds great promise for medical treatments, but experts still have much to learn about in what way stem cells, and the specialized cells they create, function in the body and their capability for healing. 

Alexander says that scientists all over the world are conducting stem cell research that informs their understanding of the human body and how they approach medicine. For instance, scientists are finding out how to use stem cells to produce tissue that, when relocated, will take the place of tissue injured by aging, illness, or wound. In addition, they are also discovering ways to motivate self-repair, persuading stem cells in the human body to produce healthy cells to rebuild damaged tissue from within or to stop additional damage.

Apart from having interest in stem cell research, Alexander Potoczak is passionate about the technology, legal system, philanthropy, sports, and politics. Mr. Potoczak has become a member of Hamilton College's Colleges against Cancer while studying Bachelor’s at Hamilton College. He is also a member of the Hamilton College Republicans. In his leisure hours, he loves to take part in activities like sports, charity, politics, and technology.
