In 2014, Brampton-based Loblaw Companies acquired Shoppers Drug Mart Corporation for $12.4 billion in cash and stock. This merger has developed a synergy between these two stores where both stores can stock each other’s products.

The company owns and operates several speciality services apart from their retail format. They have 56 Shoppers Home Health Care stores those sell and service assisted-living devices, home-care products mobility and medical equipment. Shoppers Optimum is a loyalty program introduced by this chain that facilitates the customers with Shoppers Optimum redeemable points.

A leading Canadian independent pharmacy and drugstore retailer, founded in 1981 through the merger of two British Columbia based pharmacy chains, United Pharmacy and Western Drug Mart. This company has been focussing on making a national platform of community-based retail outlets that are designed to deliver exceptional service, products and advice to its customers.

Headquartered in Langley, British Columbia, Pharmasave is now operating more than 550 stores across 9 provinces that operate independently in various sizes from small dispensaries to large home healthcare pharmacies. They produce a range of 700 Pharmasave Brand products.

     Jean Coutu

Jean Coutu is a Canadian drugstore chain, co-founded in 1969 by Jean Coutu and Louis Michaud. Headquartered in Varennes, Quebec, this chain has more than 400 franchised stores in New Brunswick, Ontario and Quebec. The company is also recognised for its private line product "Personnelle" that produces a wide variety of products such as cosmetics, papers apart from other pharmaceutical products.

Coutu’s U.S. subsidiary was once the third largest distributor and retailer of pharmaceutical related products in North America with around 2200 stores. However, American stores have been sold to the company, Rite Aid recently.

     Uniprix

A Quebec pharmacy chain, founded in 1977, is operating under four brands in Canada namely Uniprix, Unipharm, Clinique Santé and Uniclinique. It is the 2nd largest pharmacy chain in Quebec combining these 4 brands.

Headquartered in Saint-Leonard, Montreal, this chain operates around 375 pharmacies in Quebec.
